- Free Visitor Counters
We have designed
our visitor counters to be fun and easy to use. Below are a
few questions and answers to help you if you run into any
trouble when installing your new Sunshine Counter.
Q. How
do I install my free counter after I sign up?
A. After you
sign up you will get a personal counter code that looks
something like this:
Copy the code
that the system creates and paste it into the HTML (source
code) of your website. If you are using FrontPage this
can be easily done by positioning your mouse where you want
the counter to show up and then clicking the HTML view in
FrontPage and pasting the code exactly like it is into your
page. You will only be able to see the counter after you
upload it. Other Website Builders work basically the same way,
some have an Insert Feature where you copy code into the
Insert Box and the program will put the counter where you ask
it to. If you have trouble please check with your hosting
company or ISP for more help.
Q. I
installed my counter and it was working fine and after I made
a change on my site the counter disappeared, what happened???
A. If
you are not careful you will overwrite the JavaScript code
that is hidden in the HTML of your web page, the best way to
check is to look at the source code and look for something
that says "counter.php?id=", if you can't find that
anywhere on your page it more than likely got deleted when you
updated your page. No worries just log into the Tools page
here on our site and get another copy of the Counter code and
paste it back into your web page. The database will store your
visitor counts so you will never lose the data even if you
delete the code on accident.
Q. Can
I add a different counter to each page of my site?
A. Sure,
you can add as many free Sunshine Counters as you would like,
you will have to sign up for each counter separately with
different user names but you can use as many counters as you
feel you need.
Q. How
do I stop the counter from counting me when I go to my own
website?
A. Inside
the Tools area there is an IP box, just type in the IP address
of your Internet Provider and this will not add to your
counter when you visit your site. Some ISP's such as AOL, MSN
and others do not use a static IP address (the IP address
changes each time) so the best thing to do is type in the IP
address but leave off the last couple of digits, example if
your IP address is 206.111.232.12 just type in the box
206.111.232 and leave off the ".12" this will help
cut down on the number of times You get counted since most ISP
only change the last set of #'s on local IP blocks.
Q. I
still can't get my counter to work, will you install it for
me?
A. We
recommend checking with your hosting company or ISP first to
see if they can help as we do not recommend you giving out
your user name and passwords to strangers. We would be happy
to help if you have no other way of getting your counter added
to your site, in this case we will need the log in information
for your website. We will completely erase the information
once the counter has been installed for your protection.
Q. What
other freebies does Sunshine Counters offer?
A. We
also offer a Free Guestbook service, it is easy to use and
does not contain any pop-ups or banner ads like most of the
free services you will see. We are always coming up with new
